An ability in speaking English is one capability that is crucial in obtaining employment lately. This phenomenon is what underlies the emergence of a variety of language schools throughout Indonesia. Regardless of how exactly the quality of English courses that exist in Indonesia, implied a situation of concern is lack of good quality of English language teaching in schools.
So, there is a challenge for improving the student's ability especially in senior high school. A senior high school actually, has to speak english fluently enough because they have been studying english for long time...it's more about 5 years. Students of junior and senior high school in their age, about 12-18 years old. In this age, is at an important time to learn English. To be able to use English properly, they should be given English language training specifically designed to meet the learning needs of adolescent students. For the young, successful learning English is not only determined from their ability to speak and remember the vocabulary of English. Teenagers can be said to succeed if they can learn to speak English properly, natural and confident.
Most students in this age ,already have basic English skills in listening, speaking, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. So, teacher focused teaching to develop an integrated English language skills in pure English environment that would be very useful when students facing college entrance exams later. The most important thing we will teach is how to make students knowledgeable and could become the world's population who confidently.
Teachers should make an effective media for teaching English so that the students would more understand the subject and how to use it, because most of them.. they just memorize the subject without they know what it used for they just know the theory.Here some medias that can be used for learning English in senior high school :
• Speaking English every time and everywhere, we have to make en English learning environment so that students easier to practice and develop their skill.
• Learning English by enrich vocabularies from the global science besides for improving student’s English ability it is also to open students knowledge. So schools need make another subject begins using English in their learning time.
• Using entertaining media like films, music, and book story. It could enrich their sentences and vocabularies.
• Making English zone. In this zone everyone has to speaking English, so students should speak English and practice it, eventhough they make many mistakes but this is the way how they enrich their ability. Practice makes perfect.
If we learn English in a country where the language is used as a Main language, generally we will more quickly master the language because every day we are surrounded by English, from waking up until go back to bed. This is because English has become an integral part of our lives. Similarly, we have to do in Indonesia, if we want to learn English effectively: we should make English as part of our lives. That is, we should try to use it every day where possible. For that, we can read, hear, or speak the English language on every occasion that we meet or who can we create.
